Fuck Flattering

Fuck Flattering

I wanted to talk about the idea of flattering clothing but I wasn’t in the mood to do a lot of typing so instead I made a bit of a rant video. Beware – I say fuck a lot. You can buy one of Gisela’s Fuck Flattering shirts here.

And you may have noticed a new sponsor on the right hand side there. My girl Dani recently started an awesome pop culture/celebrity gossip blog called Pop Culture Major, make sure you check it out. If you would like to advertise on Fat Aus click here.

Weight Watchers recipe cards from 1974. These will put you off food for quite a while, maybe that was how Weight Watchers worked back then?

Le Cafe De L’EnferĀ  was a Hell themed cafe in Paris that operated from the mid 19th Century to the mid 20th Century. Legend has it that the doorman dressed as Satan and would greet patrons with “Enter and be damned!”

How amazing did the models look for Gisela’s runway show?! I think this was the first time I have ever cursed Melbourne and wished I was in Sydney because I was invited to this amazing event but I sadly couldn’t make it. You can see some more great photos from the show on Dani’s blog here and you can buy your very own FUCK FLATTERING (I love this message) here.

How cute are these grass look-a-like page markers?!

I love this necklace.

Did you guys know ASOS are opening up a Australian branch with the Australian website launching mid-September. This will mean local returns and the prices will apparently be the same as they are currently which is good. I’m just a bit worried about not being able to shop on the UK site anymore and missing out on their end of season sales. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it all works out.

This video from Courtney is amazing and I think everyone should watch it whether you’re a big girl or not, it’s such a great message.

Here’s one for you Melb-babes! You just might see me there too!

Birthday Blues

Birthday Blues

It was my birthday recently. To celebrate I took a little trip out to the mountains. I can’t decide if this outfit makes me look like a blueberry or not or whether or not that’s a bad thing. I think I like it.

I met some cool dragon dudes:

And ate heavenly scones:

Crafting a Green World teaches you how to make your own all natural moss graffiti.

Nicole and Stefan Andren designed this amazing loft in the forest behind downtown Portland, Oregon. Click through to watch the entire slideshow, this house is a dream!

I’m sure a lot of you guys already know Hannah and Landon Mertz from their blog but recently Style Like U did a really awesome feature on them. They are adorable and seriously talented.

This cupcake pillow from Fred Flare is too cute!

Christopher Meloni (AKA Elliot Stabler)’s one and only tweet.

Sick of hearing about terrariums all the time? Why not make your own tabletop water garden instead?

Do you guys know the Diane Linkletter story? If not read the wiki article here, but basically she was a 20 year old with a famous father who killed herself in 1969 and her dad tried to blame it all on LSD and dedicated the rest of his life to anti-drug campaigning even though test results showed that she was actually completely sober when she died. Anyway, in 1969 John Waters made a short film based on these events starring Divine as Diane Linkletter. It wasn’t released until the 90s and now here it is on YouTube.

This cracks me up (if anyone knows who did this please let me know so I can link them, I found it on tumblr with no links back to whoever did it).

So you want to shave (half) your head…

So you want to shave (half) your head…

I’ve noticed that I get a lot of traffic from people searching for images/stories/whatever about girls with half shaved heads so I thought I would do everyone a favour and write a blog post all about it. In August 2009 I shaved almost half my hair and lived to tell the tale so here goes.

It all begins with a big girl crush on the British model Alice Dellal:

Whatta babe, right?! What an awesome haircut. How can you not love her?! After a couple of weeks of longingly looking at photos of her and wishing I looked half way that cool, I took the plunge:

To begin with I was a little apprehensive so the first time I had it shaved (by a guy I had just met that night after a couple of beers to be totally honest) I think I went with a number 3 or something. I decided to keep a bit of a sideburn hair thing because it reminded me Chelsea cuts which I think are really awesome. Just a quick warning – as I’m going to post a mixture of photos taken with Photobooth and regular photos it’s going to look like it switches between which side of my head was shaved because the Photobooth shots are mirror images so in case anyone gets confused, I shaved the right side of my head.

To be honest I didn’t really consider this to be a super dramatic or shocking haircut but be warned – I had shaved my head before. This was me when I was 16:

so it didn’t feel like such a huge deal to me, it’s only hair you know? But if you’ve never had an extreme hairstyle before and especially if you have long hair, shaving a big chunk of it off is probably going to be a bit scary. That said, I could easily just part my hair differently and pretty much hide the shaved bit completely:

If you want to be able to do this just make sure you keep the shaved part to 1/3 or less of your head. Then it’s easy to just part it on the side and pull your hair across.

Ok so here are a bunch of photo of what it looked like most of the time:

I had this haircut for somewhere between six and nine months and I had to re-shave my head about every month. After the first unsure shave at the number three I stopped being a wimp and shaved it closer to my head because it looked better and then I didn’t have to re-shave it as often. As you may have noticed I also bleached the regrowth at some point.

I’ve had a few people ask me what this haircut looks like if you want to put your hair in a ponytail so I found some photos of that too:

Eventually I got sick of re-shaving my head every month and just parted my hair so that it covered the shaved bit while I grew it out:

After a few months the once shaved side looked like this:

By now it’s all the same length as the rest of my hair. If the difference in length really bugs you, you can always get extensions until it properly grows out. So that’s about it, I hope this was helpful and informative but if there’s anything I left out that you’re wondering about feel free to ask. Also, now I really miss being a redhead!

We Love Colors Leggings Review

We Love Colors Leggings Review

First of all can I just say man it sucks to try and take photos of yourself! I’ve been lucky enough to pretty much always have somebody around to take photos of me for this blog but today nobody was home so I thought I would try out taking photos of myself. First of all the remote for my camera wouldn’t work for some reason and then it took me about half an hour to figure out how to attach my camera to my housemate’s tripod. I seriously took about 40 photos and these are the only ones that turned out even half-way alright. I have a new found respect for bloggers who take photos of themselves, it’s hard work! If any of you guys have any good tripod/taking photos of yourself tips please let me know!

Anyway! The babes over at We Love Colors sent me these leggings to review. I’m wearing the style 6101 leggings in black here and yes, I am wearing them as pants because “fashion rules” are silly and I am a big fan of leggings as pants. These leggings are thick and very stretchy and have a bit of a shine to them. They remind me of American Apparel’s disco pants (but without the guilt of supporting that creep Dov Charney! Yay!) or the pants Sandy wears at the end of Grease (that outfit actually inspired my outfit a bit). These were actually thrown in as a bit of a surprise and I’m so glad they were because I’m really into them. I’m not much of a pants wearing person but I think I will wear these a lot.

leggings: c/o we love colors, tshirt: tbc, jacket: angry young and poor, shoes: buffalo (these are actually for sale on the Fat Aus Blog Shop but after wearing them today I don’t know if I want to sell them anymore…)

Nails and Things

Nails and Things

Today I tried out Tanie‘s polka dot nail tutorial. I only used three different colours for the dots and I couldn’t find any toothpicks so I used the flat end of matchsticks but I think it turned out pretty well. I like it. Sorry for the dodgy Photobooth photo, I’m too lazy to find my proper camera right now.

And a small word from our sponsor Jezzy Belles: Hey Fat Aus readers, Deborah of Jezzy Belles is trying to scratch together a little extra cash for an extra special birthday present for her husband, so through his birthday on the 28th everything in the shop will be 20% off. And the 3 day sale items? An extra 20% off! As always, Jezzy Belles does international shipping and is more than willing to cut a deal on shipping to all off the Fat Aus readership!
